Maria Nordman is Roland prizewinner 1993

The Roland Prize for Public Art 1993 goes to the artist Maria Nordman. Maria Nordman was born in Görlitz in 1943, she grew up in France and lives in Santa Monica, California since many years.

"Maria Nordman represents an artistic position that inspires meditation and discussion on new concepts of publicly accessible art. Since more than two and a half decades this artist has pursued her concept of a "new city". She creates a newer, freer communicative behaviour with her sculptures and spaces that integrates the human being into the work of art. You can find her works at unpredictable places in the cities. By including the different forms of art like dance, music, literature, architecture and landscape architecture Maria Nordman develops a comprehensive image bearing the character of a complete work of art."
