Hans Haacke is Roland prizewinner 2009

The “Roland Prize for Public Art 2009” has been awarded to the German artist Hans Haacke, who was born in 1936 at Köln and is residing at New York.

The jury of the foundation Bremen Sculptor Prize justify their decision as follows:

“The foundation “Bremer Bildhauerpreis” honours the lifework of an artist who inspires with always new, as well as nonorthodox, aesthetic means along decades. Thus, Hans Haacke discovers latent antagonisms, false certainties and suppressed grievances of the society. Haacke publizises such conflicts in a cogent and convincing way. The fund speculation which caused the global financial crisis verified the topicality of Haacke’s work of enlightenement in an unforeseeable complexity.”

With this award the jury accompanied by the “Bremer Bildhauerpreis” links the hope to win Hans Haacke for a project in the region of Bremen.
